7 Tips To Prevent Yourself From Getting Sick This Winter

As we move further into the miserable and cold months of winter, it becomes more difficult to prevent yourself from getting sick. With more and more people coming down with the flu and those terrible colds, it’s time to take action against those dreaded viruses. After all, no one wants to be a coughing, sniffling mess – do they?

Here are our 7 tips to prevent you from getting sick this winter!

  1. Always wash your hands.

A little bit of personal hygiene can go a long way in preventing the spread of germs.  Make sure you avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose without washing your hands. For extra protection against germs, keep a hand sanitiser on you for emergencies.

  1. Get vaccinated with the flu shot.

This is one of the best ways to avoid getting the flu. Although it’s not 100% effective, it will definitely decrease your chances of getting sick this winter.

  1. Get enough sleep.

A good night’s rest is an essential part of keeping healthy all year round, especially in the colder months. Getting enough rest allows the body to restore itself over the night and bring your immunity levels back up. A sleep-deprived body is be more inclined to catch bad germs and infections, so we don’t want that!

  1. Eat healthy meals and get enough good nutrients.

Make sure that you are eating plenty of healthy, nutritious food. This will help boost your immunity to resist getting sick and improve your general well being. Try to steer clear of a lot of sugar and drinking too much alcohol – this can have a negative effect on your health.

  1. Continue to exercise regularly.

A regular, moderate amount of exercise can help improve your body’s defences against viruses and boost your immune system. A burst of energy in your day will increase your circulation and blood flow throughout your body. Really, just sweat it out!

  1. Keep surroundings clean.

Clean and disinfect areas and surfaces, especially those that get touched by a lot of people (e.g. door handle).  This will help to prevent the spread of germs in your home and workplace.

  1. Stay hydrated.

Try and drink plenty of fluids to stay healthy. A great beverage to have in the wintertime is a hot green tea with lemon and honey – it contains antioxidants and can act as an antibacterial.
